about the Foundation

The NAWIC Philadelphia Foundation seeks to encourage students in elementary, middle, or high school to learn about a potential career in construction.  We partner with the local companies, trade unions and educational leaders to promote careers in design and construction to students as an alternative to college.

NAWIC Philadelphia Foundation is a volunteer organization dedicated to sharing our love of construction with children and young adults in our community by providing fun, safe, explorative camps and recreational programs as described below.

The Foundation is a public charity organization and exempt from federal income tax under IRC code 501(c)(3).  EIN 82-5114176.

Our success requires financial and voluntary support from the local community.

University

At the university level we offer many opportunities for young women to get involved in NAWIC, MyWIC, and the construction industry.  First, through our Eleanor Buckley Scholarship, we are able to support young women who have a strong interest in pursuing a career in the construction industry at the university and college level.  Also, young women at the university/ college level are encouraged to apply to intern with us at our summer MyWIC camps.  This internship is a great opportunity for young women in STEM or construction management courses that are looking to help secondary student find their career passion.

Secondary

MyWIC, Mentoring young Women in Construction, is a summer program for middle and high school girls in the Philadelphia area to learn about opportunities in the construction industry.  Through this program young women are exposed to opportunities in engineering, construction management, architecture, and the trades, while touring job sites and making connections within the industry. Through this program, we hope young women gain a stronger interest in the field of construction that leads them to pursue a career in the male dominated industry.

We start our outreach to promote interest in the construction industry at an early age with our Block Kids program.  The Block Kids Building Competition is a national event that starts with competitions at the local level.  It is open to all students in Kindergarten through 6th grade.

Our Block Kids event is held on a Saturday morning in November.  Last year over 100 students attended.
